Have you ever wondered what isn’t on the internet? And if something isn’t available on the internet, does it mean the subject doesn’t exist? That nobody else thinks about it? And (this sounds ridiculous) but if something isn’t ‘google-able’, where, oh where, does one find out about it? When I stumped Google, I started thinking about these things. Here’s how it went.

If your picture is ‘on the cover of the Rolling Stones’ (or Canadian Horse Journal magazine), does that make you a ‘cover girl’? According to that great knowledge-enhancer Wikipedia, a cover girl is ‘a woman whose picture is on the cover of a magazine’. However, this definition appears to have some caveats. Whoot, whoot! Go Horse Camping is on it's way! Here's some text from the first and second chapters. Let me know what you think :)
Woohoo - a third book is underway! Julia Nieckarz and I have been going horse camping together for two years, with another 30 years of horse camping experience prior to that. The result is a fun and informative book for all horse travelers: Go Horse Camping: A (funny) Illustrated Guide to Camping With Your Horse. As traditional publishing tends to take a bit longer than self-publishing, and we'd like to get the book out ASAP, we'll be launching a Kickstarter campaign in March 2016 to fund the project. Please join us! Have you ever met an author and thought, ‘Wow, they’ve written a book! They must be well off’? Well, unfortunately, ‘author’ and ‘well off’ are rarely found in the same sentence. There are many authors of really good books, who are just regular people like you (and I) that just happen to have written a book. And hence are an author. Most aren’t a booming financial success. The book that started it all: Rockin' Whitewater Well nothing like jumping right in. A long ago horse friend called and asked for help funding a dream. Since I believe in helping dreams come true, I said sure, I can help. Let's crowd-fund!
Here's the campaign: Send Joni Lynn Peters to Rio 2016 There's a superstition that if you change a horse's name, the horse won't work out. I hope it's wrong. Here are some names that I've changed.
I've often wondered what makes videos or ideas go viral online. Some things seem so mundane, or just downright silly. Others are entertaining, but do millions of people really think so?
It's tough to comprehend, so I did a bit of reading. Contagious: Why Things Catch On was my help mate. Here are Jonah Berger's takeaways. I love crowd-funding. What a grand idea. Put your innovation, practical solution, pie-in-the-sky idea 'out there' for the world to judge and... see whether enough regular people will give you (yes, GIVE YOU), their hard-earned cash in support of your idea. Awesome. Of course, they do get something in return. Still. Awesome.
Check out Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or GoFundMe to learn more - and support some really great ideas! |
